Obituary

Arthur Neal Davis was born on Thursday, August 22, 1935, the 234th day of the year to Louis Davis and Fleming Moore Davis in Garden City, Louisiana, the last of seven children born to Mrs. Davis. When Arthur was three months old, the family moved to Jasper in search of work. Arthur, his three brothers, and three sisters grew up in the Independent Quarter Section of Jasper. He attended the J. H. Rowe school system from grades one through twelve.

Arthur fell in love with a petite young lady named Sue Frances Wilson, and on January 7, 1957, the couple married. Together from this union, they raised two daughters, Gwendolyn Sue and Barbara Neal.

Arthur was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a member of the Jasper Steers baseball team and he played for the Negro football team. He loved playing golf whenever he could, and on some occasions, he would hit the ball and Barbara, who stuck to him like glue when she was small, would run and retrieve them as long as they didn't land in the woods.

He admired such greats as Jack Nicholas, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Lee Elder, Calvin Peete, lady golfer, Nancy Lopez, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriquez, and of course, the one and only Tiger
Woods to name a few.

Arthur worked for the Jasper Sawmill as a young adult then began working for the US Army Corp of Engineers located on Lake Sam Rayburn Dam Site as the maintenance for over 20 years before retiring. He then worked as Forman over the Maintenance Dept. for Chateau Inn, Ramada Inn, and Super 8 Motel. He also worked at the Jasper Country Club as a bartender as well as maintenance and upkeep on the club's golf carts. He labeled himself with the title "Mr. Fix It." If it needed to be repaired, "Mr. Fix It" repaired it. He was always willing to help
out others whenever he could.

Arthur was a member of the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church where he sat on the Deacon's Board and sang in the choir. In the later years of his life, he was an active member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he sat on the Deacon's Board and sang in the choir until his health prevented him from attending services, but he never stopped singing and praising the Lord.

Arthur Neal Davis was a family man, and he tried to do his best to take care of his family as he could.

He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa, crooner, and friend.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Louis Davis and Fleming Moore Davis; wife, Sue Frances Davis; daughter, Gwendolyn
Sue Wilson; brothers, James Willie Davis, Hiram Louis Davis (Dorothy), and Leroy Davis; and sisters, Ernestine Rucker (Henry), Hester Mae
Ross (Jesse), and Lillie Mae Gundy.
