Bernis
Cauley
May 5, 1934 — May 23, 2023
Bernice Edward Cauley was born on May 5, 1934, to the late Robert Cauley and Lottie May Traylor-Cauley in Jasper, Texas.
He later met and married Bobbie Lee Cauley on May 24, 1954, and to this union, nine children were born. They raised two grandchildren, Cedric Cauley and Bobbie Lusk, who lived with them. All of the grandkids held a special place in their hearts.
Bernice Cauley was a timber logger and spent his career as a young man into adulthood in the woods with his Stihl power saw. He shared his love of what he did with his children and grandkids and instilled in them the importance of hard work. One of his favorite sayings was "If you don't work, you will steal" and we all carry that saying with us till this day. He enjoyed hunting, fishing (didn't matter if it was bank fishing or boat fishing), crabbing, harvesting hogs, planting, camping, dominoes, harvesting his on food and meats, and eating with his family. Also, he enjoyed repairing whatever was broke and didn't mind lending a helping hand when needed; You would never find a power saw chain or knife sharper than his. He was a loving, son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Bernice was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Garfield Cauley, Clifton Cauley, Girston Cauley, and Preston Cauley; three sisters, Bobbie Cauley Scott, Loresa Person, and Leola Junious; loving wife, Bobbie Lee Cauley; son, Charles Edward Cauley; and daughter, Bernetha Mae Cauley-Verrett.
Bernice Cauley departed this life on May 23, 2023, at Charleston Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Betty Sue Conerly; children, Evelyn Joyce Young, Gene Cauley (Debbie Cauley), Robert Cauley, Greg Cauley (Betty Cauley), Jeanetta Cauley, Michael Cauley (Michelle Marquette), and Rickisha "Ricki" Cauley (Taj Cross); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
When you were around him, there were always life lessons and a story to be told. For that, we say Thank you and Love you Dad! His favorite story to tell – "The Mysterious Money" - Dad how are we supposed to find the money under the tree without you?
