Bettie Florence Holt Dacus was born to Alec and Zelma Holt in Huntsville, Texas, on September 30, 1937. Bettie attended school in Huntsville and graduated from Sam Houston High School. She furthered her education at Prairie View A&M University, graduating in 1959.

She later married Curtis Lee Adams of Jasper, Texas, and worked at J. H. Rowe School. Bettie and Curtis then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a librarian for the Chicago Public Library System. While in Illinois, the first of her three children, Elbert Wade, was born. After returning to Jasper, Texas, Bettie became the Jasper High School librarian, and during this time her children Shannon Lamont and Misty Yvonne were born.

In 1985, Bettie remarried Jimmie Lawrence Dacus and gained three stepdaughters: Jimmie Diane, Mia Andrell, and Pamela Dawn. They later moved to Pampa, Texas, where Bettie worked as an administrator and librarian until her retirement in 2002.

Bettie enjoyed relaxing with a good book and always stayed up to date with technology, often saying, "I gotta know what's going on." She loved and doted on her children, but especially treasured time with her grandchildren.

Bettie is survived by her children: Elbert Adams, Shannon Adams (Tanya), Misty Rivon, Jimmie Diane, Mia Andrell, and Pamela Dawn; grandchildren: Layla Danielle, Adam Paul, and Ava Marie; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

She will be remembered for her love of family, dedication to education, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
