Mr. Charlie Douglas Hanks was born on July 14, 1939, in Newton County, Texas, to the late Earl and Odessa Hanks.

He attended public school and finished from Kerr High School in Newton, Texas.

He joined church at an early age and was a faithful member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

He united in marriage to Eddie Ruth, with whom he shared 58 years, and they had three children.

He worked in the lumber industry in his early adult years and for Jasper Electric for 20 years. Following that, he went in semiretirement, performing various odd jobs.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Eddie Ruth Hanks; daughter, Cheryl Ann Hanks; parents, Earl and Odessa Hanks; two brothers, Carl Thomas Hanks and Earnest Lee Hanks; and two sisters, Katherine Childs and Mary Hillard.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, LaQuinta Rena' Johnson of Houston, Texas; son, Eulas "Charles" (Paquita) Hanks of Longview, Texas; granddaughter, Shelby MiKayla; brother, Earl (Shirley)
