Clotiel was born January 27, 1925, to Vaughn and Allie Mattox in Farrsville, Texas. She was the oldest in a family of ten children. She was Big Sister to Freddie "Shack", J.T., Gordy "Big Joe", K.C., Jocee, and Ellis "Twin". Brothers Guy, Jerry, and Wren died as babies.

She was raised in the Indian Hill Community and attended Mattox School. She enjoyed playing basketball as a young girl.

On February 22, 1941, she married Johnnie Brooks. To this union, ten children were born. She was a loving mother and devoted wife for over 65 years. She was a member and Mother of Full Gospel Testament Church, where she served faithfully for many years. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to loved ones, raising children, and serving the Lord. She enjoyed fishing and will be remembered for her great cooking, colorful quilts, and crocheted hats. She led a long and fruitful life.

On the morning of October 10, 2020, Clotiel died peacefully in her sleep. She was 95 years old.

She was preceded in death by her eight siblings, her husband, Johnnie Brooks, and her sons, Reginald, John Halvert, Eugene Brooks, and Michael Hayes.

She is survived by one brother, Ellis "Twin" Mattox; seven children, Worthy (Doris) Brooks of Vallejo, CA, Robert Brooks of La Porte, TX, Eddie Brooks of Arkansas, Daisy (Jerry) Buckner of California, Allene Forward of Newton, TX, Gloria Jean Brooks of Pflugerville, TX, and Ezekiel (Debra) Brooks of Jasper, TX; thirtyfive grandchildren and many great- and great-greatgrandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, and her extended family. She also left her pets, Sugar Mama and Tiny.
