Obituary

A life journey was opened for Deloris McGill on December 9, 1952. She was the fifth of six siblings born to the late Warner McGill, Sr., and Gladys Hafford McGill in the Dixie Community of Jasper, Texas. She attended George Washington Carver Elementary School for grades first through eighth. She was a graduate of Jasper High School class of 1971. She attended and graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a bachelor's degree in education. She received her teacher's certification in Special Education in 1974. Ms. McGill went on to touch the lives of countless students with her teaching skills from Newton Independent School District from 1974 to 2009. After retirement, she continued to work for Newton ISD and Burkeville ISD. She was rehired in 2015 with Jasper Independent District where she was part of the SPED department at Parnell Elementary School until she moved to Few Primary School this year. Ms. McGill has been of great service in education for almost 50 years. Deloris accepted Christ at an early age being reared in a Christian home. She was baptized and a member of the Dixie Baptist Church where she served until her death. She was a faithful member of Sunday school, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and the Mission. She was an announcing clerk and a member of the Senior Choir.

Deloris never met a stranger. She was a people's person. She had a heart of gold. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and good food, but she loved nothing more than family. She spent lots of her time with her sisters, a true sister bond. You didn't see one without the other. She received much joy hosting holidays, birthdays, or just a good ol' fish fry day.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Hafford McGill and Warner McGill, Sr.; brother, Warner McGill, Jr.; and sisters, Bertha McGill and Wanda McGill Payton.

She leaves cherished memories to her only daughter, Kahla McGill; adopted daughter, Pearline Metoyer; brothers, Joe Cecil (Eva) McGill and Gerald McGill. Deloris had her hand in raising many individuals over the years. Many thought of her as a mother figure. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
