Faye Diggles Gatson "Lashes"

Ella was born September 6, 1946 in Jasper, to the late Claude and Elizabeth Diggles. She graduated from J.H. Rowe in 1965 and attended Angelina College, Lufkin, TX, where she obtained a degree in nursing. She worked at Mary Dickerson in Jasper, TX as a nurse for 31 years until her retirement.

In 1984, she met and married the love of her life, Bob Steel Gatson, and remained married for many years until his health failed him.

Ella was a faithful member of the Dixie Missionary Baptist Church. She became very active as a Sunday school teacher and mission sister, and also assisted in the church cafeteria.

Ella was known for her cooking and enjoyed making large meals and desserts for everyone to come and eat. Her specialties were millionaire pies and homemade rolls.

Her proudest titles were that of wife, mother of one, bonus mom of two, and grandmother of seven.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bob Steel Gatson; her parents, Elizabeth and Claude Diggles; two sisters, Bertha Lou Hadnot-Bronson and Nancy Genetha Green; three brothers, Claude Edward Diggles, Earnest Diggles, and Will Diggles.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Sonya (Ray) Porter of Newton, TX, Sonya Lowery (Lil Sonya) of Allen, TX, and Thomasina Gatson (Kimberlynn) of Humble, TX; one sister, Alice Faye Castle (Mozell); seven grandchildren, Raenia Porter, Ashana Porter, Soneisha Woodside, Elechianna McLaughlin, Mercedes Oliver, Mona Gatson, and Jazmine Lowery; fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; and many friends and associates who each have their own remembrance of her and time spent together.
