Evelyn Faye (Morehead) Simmons was born in Houston, Texas, on June 28, 1949, to the late Melvin Morehead and Myrtle Lee Smith. Evelyn departed this life on June 24, 2023.

Evelyn graduated from J.H. Rowe High School in 1967 and went on to attend Nursing School. She worked in home healthcare throughout the Jasper area for many years taking care of others. Evelyn, also known by Faye, was a faithful servant of Christ and began her Christian walk very early in life. She attended several churches in the local community. Faye was a loving wife to Cornelius Simmons and a dedicated mother to Thomas "Corey" Thomas, Doralextist Cheatham, Manurica Cheatham, and Joseph Cheatham. She also acted as a mother to her nieces and nephews. Faye loved camping, fishing, bowling, skating, and entertaining family, with such a profound sense of humor and fun-loving spirit.

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her father, Melvin Morehead; mother, Myrtle Lee Smith; sisters, Myrtle Jean (Cheatham) Davis, Charlyn (Cheatham) Wilmore, Dora (Cheatham) McBride, Beverly Morehead; and brother, Vernon Vaughn, Jr.

Faye will be deeply missed by all who loved her. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Doralextist Cheatham, Manurica Cheatham, and Joseph Cheatham; brothers, Chester Cheatham and Melvin Morehead, Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and
friends she deeply loved.
