Obituary

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:1-6

Freida Thomas Prater was born on March 6, 1964, to the late Willie T. Thomas and Pauline Sylvester. Freida transitioned from this world peacefully at the age of 61 with her husband, Freddie, by her side. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of King Chapel CME Church, where she was baptized at an early age and attended for many years. She was a faithful member and dedicated her service to organizing programs and musicals.

Freida graduated from Nacogdoches High School and Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Freida worked for Louisiana Pacific, Brookshire Brothers, and Home Health. Her professional career in Home Health allowed her to exemplify her love and compassion for others. On June 17, 1998, Freida married the love of her life, Freddie Prater. Freida was a loving, caring, and God-fearing individual by nature. Her reputation in the community was well established. A woman of many talents, she possessed a wide range of skills. Freida always supported other churches in Texas, as well as Louisiana. Whenever she hosted a special event, she ensured that everyone was included so that no one felt left out. As her love for God shone through, Freida met no stranger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie T. Thomas and Pauline Sylvester; sisters, Gloria Adams and Louise Mattox; brother, Nathanel Harriel; father-in-law, Freddie Prater, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Annie V. Prater.

Freida leaves to cherish her memory: the love of her life for 26 years, Freddie Prater, Jr.; sons, Ahmad Adams and Jace Newman, both of Houston, Texas; daughter, Taelynn Peters of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Anilah Adams of Houston, Texas; brother, James Sylvester of Houston, Texas; sisters, Cynthia Thomas of Tomball, Texas, Teresa Mattox of Jasper, Texas, and Debra (Ronnie) Armstrong of Jasper, Texas; brothers-in-law, David Jones of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Don (Alicia) Prater, Sr., of DeRidder, Louisiana; sisters-in-law, Dana Roberson of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Mary (Eric) Colbert of DeRidder, Louisiana; aunt, Velma Jones of Pleastanthill, Louisiana; special friends, Diana Chestnut of Newton, Texas, and Evelyn Hennington of Newton, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
