Obituary

Gail Latrese Carter, 52, passed away on August 19, 2026, in Jasper, Texas. She was born on January 31, 1974, in Jasper, Texas, to the late Ezra and Jewel Howard.

Gail grew up and attended school near Kirbyville, Texas, where she spent much of her early life and a portion of her adulthood before meeting the love of her life, Elredge Carter, and settling in Jasper, Texas. During her early years in Jasper, Texas, she worked various jobs contributing to the community. She was warmly remembered by her beautiful smile, loving spirit, and always bringing joy to everyone she met.

She had a deep love for arts and crafts and enjoyed baking and listening to gospel music. She cherished gardening, a love reflected by her household and outdoor collection of various plants over the years. She also found joy in cooking and baking meals for loved ones, spreading positivity and love through her meals.

Gail, known by many as Minister Carter, was a devoted and long-time follower of Christ. She was a faithful member of Kingdom Builders International Fellowship in Jasper, Texas. Remembered for her generous spirit and always being willing and available to share the word of God with those who needed encouragement, she served faithfully on the finance team and as a pastors' aide and was always willing to help wherever needed. Her willingness to help was noticed by others, and her phrase, "we do it better together," became a common saying amongst her church family. Her service and contributions touched many lives, and her legacy of love will continue to shine.

Gail was preceded in death by her mother, Jewel Howard, and father, Ezra Howard.

She is survived by her husband, Elredge Carter; son, Calvin Thomas; daughter, Shagail Carter; daughter-in-law, Hannah Thomas; sisters, Sonja Howard, Harlean Howard, and Erin Howard; brother, Kenny Hamilton; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
