John G. Owens was born on February 2, 1940, to the late Gilbert and Minolia Owens in Florien, Louisiana.

He attended Sabine High, as well as many other high schools, and graduated in 1958. He later married Wilma B. Sibley, and to this union, four children were born: Sinetria Owens (Guillory), Karla Owens (King), John G. Owens, Jr., and Derrick Owens. After his marriage ended, he later met and married Littlene Cuney. To this union, one daughter, Forrescee Owens, was born. John worked at several local plants, including Vancouver Bosie Pacific, Kirby , Fisher Sabine Mill, Union Pacific, and a plant in Florien, Louisiana. He retired from Union Pacific.

John was a devoted member of the Pleasant Hill Church, where he attended Sunday School regularly until his health started declining.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Gilbert and Minolia Owens, one son, John G. Owens, Jr., and one grandson, DiQuinctin Fowler.

Mr. John Owens leaves to cherish his memory: four children, Sinetria Owens, Karla Owens, Derrick Owens, and Forrescee Owens; sister, Myna (Owens) Garner; grandchildren, Rosie Cameron (Roland), Gabriel Owens, Randall Guillory (Chanelle), Andre Guillory, Preshonna Broughton, D'Amber Owens, Randasia Guillory, De'Von Owens, Dre'Qwann Jacobs, Di'Quinton Fowler, Cameron Owens, Laniya Tyson, and Darmaine "DJ" Thomas, Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; special friends, Bro Robert Wallace and Minster Pemy Adams; and a host of other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.
