Lester Carter was born on February 2, 1954, to the late Jessie and Nora Ruth Carter in Jasper County.

He attended J.H. Rowe High School of Jasper, Texas. He later met and married his wife, the Dianna Young-Carter. Through this union were born two daughters, Odessa Young and Stephanie Carter. Lester (Steel Eel) continue to reside in the city of Jasper, Texas among his family and friends until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife; both of his parents; seven brothers, Carl, Virgil, Vander, Curtis, LJ, Clen, and Tommy Carter; three sisters, Clara Carter, Jessie Mae Monroe, and Sadie Francis Crumedy.

Lester leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Odessa Young and Stephanie Carter of Houston, Texas; one brother, James Earl Carter, Sr. (Sheila); his baby sister, Katherine Greer (Kennedy), both of Jasper, Texas; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins; a friend, Cynthia Hadnot; and collections of other friends.
