Obituary

Linda Joyce Young was born to Olice and Verna Brooks on December 2, 1958 in Jasper, Texas. Linda was the fourteenth child out of 18 children and became known as "Auntie" to her family and friends.

Linda became a member of Indian Hill Church at a young age. She was a faithful believer of Jesus Christ and would often quote one of her favorite songs, "Serving the Lord will pay off after while." She also sang with Peaceful Rest Choir in Jasper, Texas.

Linda attended Wiergate Elementary and Burkeville High School. Shortly after graduating high school, Linda moved to Houston, Texas. During her time in Houston, Linda developed a love for fashion. Auntie was a true fashionista well before her time.

She eventually moved back to her hometown and raised her children, Nicholas and Shanise Young. She was a supportive mother to both of them. Auntie was known as an aunt to many people in the community, not just her biological nieces and nephews. She was truly loved and "one of a kind."

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Olice Brooks; her brothers, Washie Lee Brooks, Robert Lee Brooks, Vernon Olice (Lisa) Brooks, and Charles Leon Brooks; and her sister, Bertha Lee Traylor. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving children, Nicholas Young and Shanise (Edmone) Fowler; mother, Verna Lang Brooks; and siblings, Samuel (Joyce) Brooks, Prentice (Nettie) Brooks, Olice Brooks, Jr., Elisha Brooks, Billy Brooks, Norma (Ellis) Jackson, Rosie (Robert) Perkins, and Bernadine (Sonny) Alexander. Auntie also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, dedicated family, and friends.
