Lorene, best known as "Pig," was born on May 3, 1924, to the late George and Susie Bylery Smith of Jasper, Texas. To this union, she was the third child, all who preceded her in death.

She attended Gilgal Elementary at an early age and graduated. She was a longtime member of the Gilgal Baptist Church, where she met and married the late Albert Leroy "Chee" Verrett. To this union, they had ten children. She was preceded in death by three children, Joyce Savage, Arthur Ray Verrett, and Billie Lee Verrett.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Leroy (Mary) Verrett of Houston, TX, Debby Sue Verrett of Jasper, TX, and Mechell (Rodrick) Smith, and Fredrick (Pamela) Verrett, both of Jasper, TX; 29 grandchildren; 66 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are dedicated family and friends: Wanda Carter, Patricia Williams, Lillie Weatherspoon, Freda Lewis, and Tavi Grant.
