Obituary

Lura Rhodes Jr. (L.J.) was born on March 20,1945 to Lura Sr. and Edna Rhodes in Newton, Texas.
At an early age he was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Blooming Grove Baptist Church. He was always working in the church doing what needed to be done.
He was educated at Kerr High School.
The "HUSBAND", he united with his high school sweetheart Walterene Shankle on November 1, 1961. Their union was blessed with four sons and two daughters.
The "PROVIDER" he worked many years in the logging business. After 58 years of dedicated service to a career he loved. His health failed him in 2018 he finally retired, which meant he just took a step back.
A true "ENTREPNENEUR", he loved the country life and fresh air. He loved hauling logs and pulp wood, planting gardens, ranching, growing hay, driving trucks, buying/ selling timber and buying / selling land. He had a passion for collecting antique cars and trucks and buying junk from anybody he could help.
He was a "ENTERTAINER' loving to tell jokes to make everyone laugh, music-he wrote a song "Money Is A Problem", played the guitar and piano, playing basketball-he had a one hand hoop shot, loved large family gatherings where he was the life of the party. Through it all he loved the most his family, teaching his daughters and sons how to work and be successful. The sky was the limit for his family.
Awaiting his Heavenly arrival is his mother Edna Rhodes; son Roy Lee Rhodes; his grandparents; his beloved in-laws; and a host of other relatives and friends.
