Luvenia Thomas
Thorn
Apr 17, 1925 — Feb 19, 2021
Beaumont
LUVENIA THOMAS-THORN was born April 17, 1925, in Oldfield Community in Bon Wier, Texas, to the late Frank and Serilda Thomas. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. LUVENIA was a lifelong member of Greater Oldfield Church of God in Christ. She loved to praise and worship God. She attended church, until her health declined. She served as the Greater Oldfield COGIC Church Mother, Finance Secretary, church usher, and on the Jasper District #1 Finance Committee for many years.
On June 9, 1947, LUVENIA married J. W. Thorn, Sr. They were married for 58 years and to their union, two children were born.
LUVENIA drove bus #15 for Newton ISD for over 25 years.
LUVENIA loved her family (immediate and extended) greatly. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and making all kinds of jellies and preserves. Her favorite hobby was fishing. She would walk the creek banks and lakes through mud and water to catch a fish. In her later years, she was introduced to guided fishing tours, which she loved. Her last guiding fishing trip was November 14, 2020, on Sam Rayburn Lake. She loved family gatherings full of fun, laughter, and of course, good food. She looked forward each year to her birthday celebration in April. She would start asking in March, "What day is the party?"
On Friday, February 19, 2021, LUVENIA THOMAS-THORN gained her wings in her transition from this earthly life. Awaiting her heavenly arrival are her parents and her siblings, Annie B. Holmes, Marcell Thomas, C. J. Thomas, Dorothy Nash, Josie Harris, Elzie Thomas, Christine Bluford, and A. J. Thomas. Everlasting love and memories are cherished by: her children, Johnella A. Thorn and John (Cassandra) Thorn, Jr.; grandchildren, Jalyn N. Thorn and Darreon M. Hafford; great-grandson, Ayden Da'John Hafford; her beloved brother, Jessie Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
