Obituary

Mrs. Mary J. Beck, Momma, went on to be with her Lord on June 30, 2020. She was the matriarch of the Beck Family and the ROCK upon which the generations of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren stand upon to this day.

Mary was born on May 17, 1935 in Newton, Texas to her proud parents R.D. and Lannie Twine. She was the eldest of her four siblings. Mary's parents later moved to Hemphill, Texas, where she was reared.

She graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1953 and later met the love of her life and husband, Jimmy Lee Beck. Together they had four beautiful children, Eolisa (Beck), Carolyn, Faye, and Margaret. This was the beginning of a wonderful life of love and family.

Mary joined the B. B. Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and served as the Treasurer and Secretary while raising her children in the Lord. She became a well-known pillar in the Hemphill and East Mayfield communities, and her home became a place of gathering for people from nearly every nearby city.

Every holiday was not just a family reunion, but included friends of her children, their friends, and just about anybody else who wanted to come. You were guaranteed to be met with love, laughter, good food, games, and a little alignment if somebody wanted to show out.

She loved her children and protected them like a mother hen. Mrs. Beck always had a smile on her face and a happy demeanor. She loved to joke around with her brother, Hollis. If you ever saw them together, they were always making fun and laughing at each other. But that was the veil of love they shared. He would act like he would get mad sometimes but then never missed a day without stopping by. She would say he just came by to eat, but they really just enjoyed being sister and brother all the days of her life.

Though she was preceded in this life by her husband, after only a few years of matrimony and love, she went on to lead their family with God first, to the highest levels of respect and admiration by all that know them even to this day. Mary was also preceded by the loss of two of her children, Carolyn and Beck, and a sister, Jane Twine. This woman of God stood when no one else could, walked where no one else would, and took upon her shoulders to continue to lead her family despite whatever life threw her way.

Mary has passed the baton to her two daughters, Faye White (Jerry) and Margaret Valentine (David), to continue her legacy of Godliness, love, and matriarchal leadership. The wealth of her family includes her grandchildren: Carolyn's daughter, Elecia "Sissy" (Will) Highsmith; Beck's children, Broderick "Brad" Garrett Beck (Stephanie), Carla, and Audrianna (Alex) McBride; Faye's children, Shachez "Shad" White and Ka'Shonna "Shon" (Dominique) Weatherspoon; and Margaret's children Darius (Nydia), Jasmine, and Damian. Mary's great- grandchildren include: Brad's team, Dion, Stephan, and Bryson; Carla's team, Kaneisha and Carlie; Audrianna team, Asher and Willow; Shad's team, Chloeigh, Anthony "Pappa", Shachez Jr., and Treyson; Shon's team, London and Anthony "Buddy"; Sissy's team, Ayden and Bryce; Darius', team Mia and Darius Jr.; and Damian's team, DeVante.

She will be missed by all of her family, friends, and those who knew her from a distance. Her sister, Billie (Fred) Ruff of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Hollis Twine of Hemphill; and best friends, Shirley Blake and Elouise Richards, will long for her company.

Keep her legacy alive and follow the path she has set before; love the Lord your God, love your family, and love your friends.

Be it known by all, that Mrs. Mary Beck, the Daughter, the Wife, the Mother, the Friend, the Matriarch, has moved to her final home. She has left the ills of this world behind and is jumping for joy in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
