Modestine Barnes was born on December 21, 1969, in Bon Wier, Texas, to Woodrow and Betty Barnes. She attended Newton High School.

Modestine was employed with Texas Home Health up until her health declined. She loved to go fishing, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family.

Modestine was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Betty Barnes; grandmother, Lillie Thomas; and sisters, Martha Hopkins, Betty Samuel, and Mary Barnes.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her children, Marissa and Daylon Barnes; sister, Johnnie Mae Barnes (Cedric) of Merryville, LA; two grandchildren, Jaleigh and Aniyah Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.
