OTHA SELLS was born on November 25, 1928, to the late Ernest and Viola Sells in Jasper, TX. He departed this life on October 17, 2020. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Mae, his parents, sister, Frances Smith, and brothers, R.V. and Ernest Jr.

Otha attended school in the Huff Creek Community until the 8th grade, when he quit to help support his family. As an adult, he held a variety of jobs, including driving a truck for Phelan Supply and as a forklift operator at Owens-Illinois/LP, from which he retired in 1990.

As a child and into adulthood, Otha attended Rosebloom Baptist Church in the Huff Creek Community. Otha made the decision to accept Christ and be baptized on November 14, 2010.

In 2017, after living his entire 87 years in Jasper and the Huff Creek Community, he and Johnnie Mae made the difficult decision to move to Houston when he became unable to care for his wife on his own. Although he came to accept living in the city, Jasper was and would always be home.

Otha loved his family, gardening, and any and all sports. He was very interested in politics, especially the upcoming presidential election, and one of the last things he did before getting ill was to complete and mail back his ballot.

On Saturday, October 17, 2020, Otha departed this life, surrounded by his loving family in Houston. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Oscar Adams (Willie Ruth), Barbara McBride (James), Royce Sells (Marshenell), Cheneath Williams, Cathy Collier, Trina Watts, Brenda Sells, Elfreda
Sells, and Linda Sells (Ken Boyd); one brother, L.C. Sells; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Peacock and Louise Strahan; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family.
