Obituary

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Reginold Jerome Brooks, who departed this life at the age of 63.

Jerome was born on June 7, 1962, in Merryville, Louisiana, to Samuel and Jocee Brooks. He was raised in San Francisco, California, where he attended and graduated from Galileo High School.

At a young age, he joined and was baptized at a Church of God in Christ in San Francisco, where he was very active in the church. As an adult, he joined Dixie Missionary Baptist Church in Jasper, Texas. Afterwards, the family moved to Jasper, Texas.

In his early 20s, he met and married Rachel, and together they had a daughter, CaRessa Brooks. Though they later went their separate ways, they remained friends. Years later, he married his loving wife, Lataria Brooks. Together, they made many memories and shared a deep, loving bond.

Throughout his life, Jerome was known for his kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family. He helped build the Dam B bridge and worked on the oil rig. For many years, Jerome worked in the maintenance department at Jasper High School, where he took pride in keeping the buildings clean, safe, and welcoming. He was dependable and respected by his coworkers and friends.

Outside of work, Jerome enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing laughter, and listening to James Brown. He found joy in fishing, playing basketball, and spending time outdoors. In his younger years, he played in a community basketball league, and his love for the game never faded. He could often be found shooting hoops with his grandkids or sharing stories about his times on the court.

His laughter, wisdom, big heart, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lataria Brooks; children, CaRessa Rambo, Taquanna Johnson, CaTaria Washington, Jaybrioun Sylvain, and Samuel Brooks; 14 grandchildren; father, Samuel Brooks; siblings, Joyce Keys (Reverend Barry Keys) and Vincent Brooks (Alexis Brooks); nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends and loved ones whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jocee Brooks, grandparents, a grandchild, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

His family was his blessing on earth and will remain his legacy in heaven. Dad, your love will forever guide us. Though we miss you dearly, we find peace knowing your spirit lives on in our hearts and in the lives you've touched.

Rest in eternal love.
