Obituary

Roy Adams, Sr., was born on September 27, 1934, to Katie D. Adams and John Welsey Adams in Jamestown Community. Roy Adams, Sr., married Lillie B. Stanfield in Holy Matrimony on December 1, 1951, in Jasper, Texas. For 70 years they remained devoted to one another. From this union, Roy and Lillie B. had eight children: Lillie B. Cauley, Roy Adams, Jr. (Deceased), Sampson Ray Adams (Deceased), Lesia Mae Reed, Jenny M. Adams, Perry Gene Adams, Charles Ray Adams, and Dorris Evelyn Adams-Harris. Faith and God guided Elder Adams throughout his life. He often told the story about the night his daughter was born on April 22, 1965, which was the most significant night of his life. It was the night he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior; he considered this day to be his true Birth-day. Elder Adams' connection to God was something that radiated through him in the way he loved, the way he spoke, and the way he prayed for all those he encountered. He was chosen, handpicked by our Lord and Savior to preach the gospel, and he humbly served. Elder Adams was not just an anointed humble preacher, but he was also a self-taught carpenter who often used his skills to better the community he served. He wanted to ensure his family had access to the gospel, and with his hands he built the Pineywoods' Community Church now known as Adams' Chapel.

In 1968, at Huntington True Light Holiness Church and after the Holy Convocation he was blessed to become their pastor and shepherd. Not long after Elder Adams assisted in building Huntington True Light Holiness Church, Incorporated, he preached his last sermon there in July 1996. In 1970, he was appointed the pastor of Warren Temple True Light Holiness Church in Lufkin, Texas, and April 20, 2020, made 50 years that he served as a pastor. For over 26 years he pastored both in Hunnington and Lufkin every week, with his devoted wife and First Lady, Sister Adams, and his family right by his side. Pastor Adams leaves a legacy of countless years in the ministry. He influenced a multitude of lives nationally through his ministry for True Light Holiness Church, Incorporated. His legacy will live on because of his work, devotion, and a life well lived for God: a job well done.

Affectionately known by his children as "Daddy" and grandchildren as "PaPa," he was a logger by trade and owned his own pulpwood business for many years. Elder Adams was a self-taught community mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber, and prayer warrior. He was committed to his spiritual faith by attending church every Sunday and being an avid believer in Sunday school. His joyful spirit uplifted, encouraged, and motivated multiple generations to walk in Christ. In the fall of 1988, while logging, Elder Adams had a major accident that left his neck broken. He often stated that he was a living testimony of God's healing, strength, restoration, and grace. Elder Adams' laugh was infectious, and he often told parables and stories in a humorous way. He never met a soul that was a stranger. When he was not out spreading the word of Jesus Christ, he was an avid family man who enjoyed hunting, mowing the lawn, fishing, and working with his hands.

Elder Roy Adams, Sr. is preceded in death by his parents, Katie D. "Big Momma" Adams and John Welsey "Big Daddy" Adams; his siblings, Abella Collins, Ertie Adams, Mertie Harris, Joylene Clursky, and Bobby Joe Adams; his children, Sampson Ray Adams and Roy Adams, Jr.; his great-grandchildren, LaNell Nicole Cauley, MaKaea Simone Bowie, Fred'Shell Rogers, LaShell Rogers, Catheryn C. Elder Adams was faithful to God, his family, and his church family until his passing. He made his triumphant transition into perfect peace and glory with the Lord our Savior on his birthday, September 27, 2021, at the blessed age of 87. His larger-than-life personality and legendary laugh will never be forgotten.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. - Revelation 14:13

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. - II Timothy 4:7-8
