Shirley Brenda
Hartsfield
Oct 6, 1947 — Mar 21, 2020
Newton
Shlirley Brenda Hartsfield, affectionately know to her family as "Curly B", was born to Ezekiel (Bo) and Daisy Benjamin Sr. in Natchitioches, Louisiana on October 6, 1947. She was the eldest of six children born to Bo and Daisy; Earl, Ezekiel Jr. (June), Dorothy (Mo), Bobby Joe and Eddie Ray. Two additions were later made to the family. One by Daisy, Debra Lee Thomas and one by Bo, Tabatha White(Cutt). Totaling seven siblings whom she loved.
Shirley made her transition to Newton, Texas around the age of eight or nine years old with her mother. She eventually met and married Turner Hartsfield Sr. on January 14, 1967. They settled in Newton where together they had three children Brenda (Judy), Turner Jr. (Red) and Rhonda (Nay). Many years later they made the decision to legally adopt their first born grandchild, Petrice Hartsfield. They didn't stop there, they also cared for Michelle Wright from a young age as if she was their own. They simply called her Momma. Many years after the passing of her husband, Shirley later had a brief marriage to David Howard.
Shirley was a caregiver, whether it was professionally, in the community or for her family. She welcomed everyone into her home; if it was for a meal, to pick up her neighborhood staple "popcorn ball" and/or "freeze cup", or a place to stay for a while. Her doors were open, regardless of the circumstances. She would always say, "I'm for what's right!" Shirley's quick-witted responses that ended with a helping hand will always be remembered. She faithfully served on the usher board at Antioch Baptist Church in Newton, TX. where she is remembered for maintaining order and greeting those who entered with a smile. Shirley leaves a legacy of service to others.
Shirley, know by her grandchildren as "Nana", had her own special relationship with each of 17 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild to include: Patrice, Danesya, Reggie Jr. (Olivia), Turneshia Tevin, Carlton Jr., Talissa, Keynan, Shakwuan, Jadrian, Turner III, Tequarius, Raven, Chyn, Taraji, Trinity, Aalexyah, De'Kendall, Owen, Landon, Ryleigh, Aubri, Grayson, Vin'Ceona, Amir, Carlton III, Elias and Neveah
Shirley's health began to decline some many years ago and ultimately, she breathed her last breath March 21, 2020. Preceding her in death were her father, Ezekiel Benjamin Sr., mother, Daisy Washington, beloved husband Turner Faye Hartsfield Sr., sister, Debra Lee Thomas (Raynard), niece, Kendall Thomas, brothers, Earl Benjamin and Bobby Joe Benjamin (Martha Ann)
Surviving her death are her children Brenda Hartsfield (Kervin), Turner Hartsfield, Rhonda Hartsfield, Michelle Wright (Craig) and Patrice. Her brother Ezekial Benjamin Jr. (Jane), Dorothy Forward, Eddie Benjamin Sr. (Penny) and Tabatha White. A host of step brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews other family members and friends.
