Sonja Lynn Jones was born in 1979 in Jasper, Texas to Lillie Marie Hunter Jones and Steve Jones. She was the middle child of three births. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Jones, L.E. (Doc) Jones, James and Lillie Hunter, and Taylor and Carrie Hawthorne.

Sonja attended public school at Newton ISD. She was an active member of Newton High School. She participated in the Newton High School Marching Band as a drum major. She graduated in 1997. Upon graduation, she attended Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas where she majored in Drafting.

Sonja worked at the Mark W. Stiles Unit in Beaumont, TX for 10 years.

At an early age, Sonja was baptized and became a member at Liberty Baptist Church. She served as Sunday School Secretary and sang in the Junior Choir. Sonja was president of the Red Circle and organized a drill team.

Sonja leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted Father, Deacon Steve Jones, Sr.; one sister, Sterilyn J. Spikes (Richard) of Beaumont, TX; one brother, Steve Jones, Jr. of Alvin, TX; a grandmother, Shirley Mae Jones; one niece, Keise Spikes; one nephew, Kelton Ratliff; godmother, Ethel Burnham, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, and friends.
