Vera
Watson
Jun 27, 1935 — Mar 8, 2025
Vera Mae Watson (Madear) was born June 27, 1935, to Henry and Ruby Reliford in Newton, TX. A native of Newton, Vera attended Armstrong Chapel in Deweyrose, TX for many years.
On March 21, 1953, Vera married the love of her life, Nelson Watson, Sr. To this union, six children were born. Vera was employed at Newton Hospital and Shady Acres as a nurse. After her career in the nursing field, she became a business owner. Vera opened a café in Newton, TX located on "The Hill". She was very active within the community, always cooking and serving others.
Vera was one of a kind; a jewel to so many. She was better known as "Madear", not just to her family but many others as well. Everybody knew her doors were always open. She worked diligently to take care of her family. There was no limit to the love she shared.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruby Reliford; her husband, Nelson Watson, Sr.; one brother, Gene Reliford; two children, Lonzo Watson and Ray Watson; two grandchildren, Seandarius Hennington and Burnis Watson, Jr., and one son-in-law, Melvin Jenkins.
Vera leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Nelson Watson (Rose) and Burnis Watson, Sr. (Teresa); two daughters, Carole Jenkins and Beverly McCoy (Brian). She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
