Obituary

William Charles Hughes was born to Forest and Elizabeth Hughes on October 20, 1941 in Benson, Louisiana. Charles was the ninth of sixteen children born to the Hughes'. In October 1947, seeking a better life for the family, Forest and Elizabeth made a major decision to move from Louisiana to Pineland, Texas to further raise their family. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Pineland at Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. M.L. Williams.

William Charles Hughes received his formal education in Pineland, Texas and graduated from Bryant High School in May 1961. After graduation, Charles enlisted into the U.S. Army, September 28th of 1962 and served until September of 1964, where he received an honorable discharge.

Charles later moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked in Stat's Restaurant until the loss of his hand. Charles lived a very quiet life and as his health began to fail he was brought to Houston, Texas where he was cared for by his family. For 13 years, Charles received excellent care in the home of his sisters Bertha Alston with the assistance of his brother Frank Hughes.

William Charles Hughes departed this life on November 1, 2019 in the home of his sister Bertha Alston.

He was preceded in death by his parents Forest and Elizabeth Hughes; and twelve siblings, Lester, Henry, Zula, Ola, Forest Jr., Lonnie, Leon, Lottie, Lucy, LeRoy, Ray and Harry.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Two sisters: Bertha Alston and Bonnie Hughes; one brother: Frank Hughes (Jerri); and a host of relatives and close friends.
